The Benefits of Riding

The Benefits of Horse Riding for Those with Disabilities.

People who have disabilities have to live with many disadvantages in their lives. They can face movement disabilities, language disabilities, learning difficulties, emotional disabilities and isolation from experiences that others can enjoy. Their problem is not an individual experience; it is shared by all the family.

Everyone needs good experiences in their lives; the Riding for the Disabled Association provides a major fun event for those with disabilities and is a therapy in disguise. It also lets families get to know other people, to build up new friendships and to share problems with those who have been “there” before and who can help and support them.

The fun things are getting to know other people in a new environment. Helping to groom and care for a very large warm animal is in itself an exciting and rewarding activity. It’s very enjoyable to take part in riding games, competing with and against others. There is fun in succeeding at new skills and playing fun games. Success makes you smile and gives you confidence.

Riding gives the Rider lots of new physical, sensory, learning and emotional experiences plus a great sense of community.

How do we know? All you have to do is see the look on the faces of persons who have had a brilliant, exciting, challenging ride at the RDA – come and see for yourself.
